Contemporary archaeological dig in Gothenburg

News of the project 22/06/2016

On June 17th and 18th, the Heritage Academy organized an excavation behind Gothenburg Art Gallery. An excavation that involved both archaeology students, art students and the interested public.

"I am very happy with the project so far and with the two days dig." says Anita Synnestvedt, archaeologist and coordinator for Heritage Academy/Centre for Critical Heritage Studies. "Many children of different ages participated during the dig last Saturday and it was great to see them so enthusiastically involved. Children has this great ability to find small gems such as pearls." says Anita.

The project will last throughout the summer and the art gallery has set up educational activities on the excavation site with students from Angered, with help from the participating archaeology students from the Department of Historical studies.

Art students from Academy Valand will work with finds from the excavation in their own studio during the summer.

On the 27th of August there will be an opening of the exhibition and we are arranging a seminar discussing the project. The seminar will begin with an "ingrävning".

The program for the 27th of August will be published on the Gothenburg Art Gallery website shortly.
